Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), is a European Union regulation that came into force on June 1st, 2007. REACH attempts to streamline and improve the former legislative framework on chemicals and places greater responsibility on industry to manage chemicals and their associated risks to health and the environment.
At Cancarb, we have actively and diligently prepared for the implementation of the REACH program and have sent multiple communications to our customers including announcements about pre-registration allowing our distributors and customers based in Europe to continue to import Cancarb’s products into the European Union after December 1, 2008, and the Carbon Black Consortium dossiers’s acceptance by with the European Chemical Agency (ECHA.)
The culmination of the various announcements was the confirmation from ECHA on November 13, 2009 of the successful REACH registration of all of Cancarb’s Thermax® and Carbocolor® thermal carbon black products (CAS #1333-86-4 EINECS #215-609-9). To continue compliance with European Union's REACH legislation, Cancarb announced the appointment of WIL Research Europe B.V. as its Only Representative in April 2013.
Our activities have not stopped as we continue our REACH related activities in our role as a member of the Carbon Black Consortium.
For further details about the Carbon Black Consortium please see the consortium website.
If Cancarb's thermal black products are being imported into Europe from outside the EU in preparations or in its original form the importer of record based in Europe is obliged to meet the REACH regulation. The importer has the option to utilize WIL Research's registration as long as their name is incorporated as an “importer” in WIL Research’s registration and they regularly inform WIL of the imported volume and end uses.
